Collaborations > Brent Cole & Jacinda Russell

Brent Cole and Jacinda Russell were former colleagues in academia who met in 2010 when Russell approached Cole to help reinterpret her floating cake series in glass. Their shared affinity for all things aqueous led to in-depth discussions, two-person exhibitions, and eventually, collaboration. Their mutual interests include environmentally imperiled sites, glacial decline, estuaries, celestial bodies, specimen samples, and arboreal time. This led to the creation of artworks using the mediums of sculpture, glass, and photography. Their gravitation to metaphor is one of the driving forces of their artwork. Cole’s explorations of personal navigation questions how to interpret an experience or perspective that is secondary or tertiary to his own. Russell utilizes water (its presence and its lack) to delve deeper into the connection between autobiography, scientific discovery, and urgency versus geological time.
