Remembered Light: The Essence of All That Remains, 2025 - 2026
In "Remembered Light: The Essence of All That Remains" Brent Cole and Jacinda Russell examine the interconnectivity of trees by overlapping art history, arboreal and geological time, archaeological evidence, and glaciology through the mediums of sculpture, glass, and photography. Inspired by the studies conducted in the Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research and objects in their archives, Cole and Russell explore how scientific data co-exists in the same chronology as autobiography, how ghost forests reveal more in death than life, and how fire and fungus are mechanisms for renewal. They are not only influenced by the inherent poetry in a sylvan ecosystem, but by the profundity of how small the human footprint is on this earth. Showing traces of personal journey, trees and humans are etched by the passage of time.
